After this weekend I'm dreaming of a simpler life on a farm, where I can make cheese from my own cow and goat's milk, grow a huge garden and make my own wine from the neighboring apple orchard. All this, while my chickens free-range their little hearts out all day long. (Sigh*) This really comes to no surprise after spending a weekend away in an extremely beautiful part of Colorado.
I participated in the 2013 Ela Farms Annual Orchard Tour, which is an adorable little weekend event near Hotchkiss, Colorado, filled with wine tours, farm tours and farm-to-table meals. It was amazing!
The weekend included a winery tour at Jack Rabbit Hill, a distillery tour at Peak Spirits, another winery tour at Stone Cottage Cellars and then dinner at Fresh & Wyld Farmhouse Inn bed and breakfast.
We gathered our wine selections from the tours and brought them to dinner with us. The food was amazing! Dava Parr, chef/owner of Fresh & Wyld Farmhouse, refers to it as S.O.U.L. food (seasonal, organic, unprocessed and local). Yum!
Since all the rooms were filled at the bed & breakfast, we were offered the yurt, which I think really added to the experience. It's like staying in a fancy tent that comes with a wood burning stove.
