Have you ever found a pile of fabric scraps at a thrift store, and suddenly you imagine a dress they could be?  I love to make things from scratch -- I generally don't use recipes and I don't use patterns, and it drives my mother crazy.   (Life is more fun that way!)

Except for the lining, all of the material is from a thrift store (.25 cents a piece!).  I had a ton of fun making the flower "blossom" details and I love the raw edges of the pink layers.  It's comfortable, soft, and perfect for Summer!

  2. I heart my sister.  Isn't she cute!?  She visited from Seattle this weekend and, despite the fact she brought a little northwest rain with her, we had such a blast!  Since she was going to be in Denver a few short days, I tried to pack in as much fun as possible.   Here's the DENVER recap:

Thursday night: Ladies Night @ The Crazy Merchant, a.k.a - best bead store in the area.  Once a month they have a FREE wine/appetizer night where you can gather a few girlfriends and make jewelry! If you don't know how - they have all the tools and teachers you need.

Friday night: Ray Lamontagne concert!  Not just Ray-- but Ray at Red Rocks! (Best venue EVER!)  If you've never checked him out -- DO IT!  He will romance you.

Saturday:  White water rafting at the Colorado River Runs!  A super fun day in the sun - we even got a little cliff jumping in!  Followed by a lovely evening at the Green Russell - which, if you didn't know, is the best place in Denver to grab a drink.  Mmm Mmmm.

Sunday: relaxation time!  Washington Park was beautiful.  We packed coffee, brunch, our swim suits and "burn oil" ...all you need really.

  3. Renaye's 25th Birthday: 2009
For five years now I've taken photos of my feet.  Weird right?!  This "foot photography fetish" started in college, and before I knew it I had a rather unique collection of all the places I've been.  The photos range from exciting vacations I went on to simple camping trips with friends.  Despite the fact that some of them are taken on an uneventful day or place, at that particular moment I felt compelled to document it.  Sometimes it wasn't where I was, but how I felt at that moment, and I love that part.

So how do you document your adventures?!

Spring Break, Panama City Beach: 2006
Sheep Meadow, Central Park, NY: 2009
    South Dakota, Summer hike: 2008
    Rocky Mt. National Park: 2006
    Connecticut Wedding: 2007
    Newport, Rhode Island: 2007
    Sheridan Lake, South Dakota: 2008

I get so creative at Thrift Stores!  I try to see everything for what it could be, how I can repurpose it, or with clothes, how I can alter them.  I love to sew and I've decided to attempt to make an entire Summer "look book" from altered thrift store finds!  I'm excited for the project and the chance to improve my sewing skills.  More Thrift Store Makeovers coming soon!

  5. Repurposing Books Into Book Art

    Book Art
    Book Art
    Book Art
Isaac Salazar has never taken an art class in his life but somehow found himself making book art.  He started with simple designs that took him a few hours, using basic math and an exacto knife. Now, his book origami can take up to two weeks and they are far more complex.  Ideally, he uses old books and loves the idea of making art out of something that might have otherwise ended up in a landfill.  I think it's awesome!  What do you think?
